Healesville blues and roots artist Ash King is celebrating the release of his debut solo album with a full-band launch gig at Sooki Lounge on the afternoon of Sunday 19th July.

A familiar face around the Hills and Yarra Valley through hosting open mics and fronting high-energy outfit Smoke Stack Rhino, Ash has spent the past 18 months recording a batch of new original songs based on stripped-back, earthy arrangements. 

Taking influence from John Butler, Xavier Rudd and The Pierce Brothers, the result is a record called Yarra Valley Mud. Why choose this title?

“The Yarra Valley is my home, and it’s good for wine, and great for musical inspiration. Mud is easy to get stuck in, but eventually, it grows new shoots – it took me around six years to write and record the album. Mud was once was wood, like a guitar. Finally, the name is a tribute to one of the greats, Muddy Waters, who released a psychedelic blues LP called Electric Mud.”

Joined on stage by his co-conspirators in the studio – brother Ben on bass, long-lost cousin Danny on drums, plus a few special guests – Ash will be performing songs from the album together with a few well-known bangers to set the party vibe high.
