Victor Stranges & The Futurists return for a two-set matinee performance of music from Elvis Costello’s most vital period, 1977 to 1996. The 25-song set draws from 14 studio albums including My Aim Is TrueThis Year’s ModelArmed ForcesGet Happy!!TrustAlmost BlueImperial BedroomPunch The ClockKing Of AmericaBlood & ChocolateSpikeMighty Like A RoseBrutal Youth and All This Useless Beauty.

Expect familiar tracks like Pump It UpWatching The DetectivesOliver’s Army, Everyday I Write The Book, Veronica and Alison alongside deeper cuts such as So Like CandyYou Tripped At Every StepNew Lace SleevesBlue ChairShipbuildingRiot Act and Deep Dark Truthful Mirror.

The show takes place at the iconic Sooki Lounge, one of Belgrave’s most distinctive live venues, set in the heart of the Dandenong Ranges and known for its intimate stage, eclectic atmosphere and support for original and alternative music.

This date also marks the return of Melbourne bassist Mike Stranges, appearing with The Futurists for the first time in several years.

The full lineup includes:

Victor Stranges - vocals, guitar (The Methinks, Black Market Clash, Atomic: The Songs Of Blondie)
Frank Scalzo - drums, backing vocals (The Methinks, Secret Agents, Tom Waits Show)
Mike Dupp - keyboards (The Methinks, Black Market Clash, Atomic: The Songs Of Blondie)
Mike Stranges - bass (John Dowler's Vanity Project, Kim Salmon, Morning After Girls, Ripe)

What began as a private study in songcraft has evolved into a disciplined and deeply informed live show - a long-form engagement with the work of a singular songwriter, played by a group with no interest in mimicry and every interest in getting it right.

Shows like this don’t happen often. If you’re a Costello fan, this one’s not to be missed.
